Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bissell 1867-7 Steam Mop Hard-Floor Cleaner, Green Tea

Customer Review: Bissell Steam Mop -Green Tea Model 1867-7
Summary: 5 Stars

This steam mop is very good purchase. I have very textured non-skid ceramic tile in my kitchen and living room that is difficult to clean and the mop does a good job. Given the degree of texture, it takes longer to clean than other types of ceramic tile even with the steam mop but this is the first steam mop that actually cleans this type of tile. I have a slicker ceramic tile in another room and cleaning with this steam mop is a breeze. I am very happy with the product. It is lightweight and easy to use.

Customer Review: I love this mop!
Summary: 5 Stars

Before purchasing the Bissell Steam Mop, I read tons of reviews on it, as well as the Shark Steam Mop, the Lysol mop, and the Swiffer Wet Jet. (Actually my research began with the Swiffer and eventually led me to the Bissell!) I know there have been some reviews from buyers who were very unhappy with the product, but every time I use it, I think, "What were they talking about??"

Granted, I don't have hardwood floors, and I am only using it on vinyl flooring. And I can see how it would leave a dark floor with a streaky look. But if I did have hardwoods, I would be strongly inclined to follow the floor manufacturer's instructions about cleaning it to begin with.

For my needs, the little thing has become my best housekeeping friend. It's quiet, efficient, and I can do my entire kitchen, dining area, hallway, bathroom, and foyer on 1 tank of water. I used to dread mopping my floors and would put if off as long as possible because it was such a hassel to haul out the mop and bucket. With my Bissell, I just take it off the wall hook (very lightweight), fill the tank, plug 'er in, and in a couple of minutes I'm mopping my floor. Takes me about 15 minutes start to finish, with no drying necessary.

I'm a little perplexed by the people

Customer Review: Love It
Summary: 5 Stars

This is by far the best thing I have used to clean my floors. It gets right into the floor & disolves the dirt. It drys very quick too! I have found it so easy to use. It is much easier than a standard mop & cleaning products.

Customer Review: Love It.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the best product I have ever bought. My floors are the cleanest they have ever been. If you want clean floors this is the product to buy.

Customer Review: Works well, but the instructions should be more specific...
Summary: 3 Stars

I decided to purchase a hard floor cleaner because I was tired of and temporarily medically unable to lift and wring out my long-handled sponge mop. I chose this brand and model because of the favorable reviews.

This Bissell was easy to assemble and figure out how to operate---and I am not especially mechanically inclined. However, what I was not expecting (and I don't remember reading this in any of the reviews) was that the handle does not lock into place and actually slides (sometimes completely out) of the main frame, especially when gliding this cleaner backward. To stop the handle from sliding out, I only could glide the cleaner forward or hold on the handle in such a way, as to prevent the rod from sliding out when I moved the cleaner backwards.

The Bissell engineers should have consulted with mechanically-challenged people like me, as to clarify (most likely in diagrams) where the screws should be. I was able to lock in the mop, but not the handle.

Update: Thanks to one of the readers here, who informed me that I should have taken off the water tank and find the hole where a screw could be.
I found where the screw went in,(a eureka moment for me), lined it up and locked it in. The handle no longer slides out! Yay!

Other than a lack of understanding with these instructions, along with my not-so great mechanical ability, this machine cleans very well and I am pleased with the steam cleaning. It cleans my hallway, kitchen and dining room area, which is about 600 sq. ft. without having to refill the water container.

I would like to add that this handle is a bit short for my comfort level.
Perhaps, Bissell could design the handle longer and adjustable for future models. Also, I tried to go back and give this a 4 star rating, rather than the original 3 that I gave this, but I was unable to do so.

The 4-star rating is because I think that handle is too short (at least for my height) and the instructions could have been more specific.

Other than that, the machine is a keeper!
