Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bissell 3920 Pet Hair Eraser Dual-Cyclonic Upright Vacuum Cleaner

Customer Review: Very pleased!
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this on a Tuesday and it was delivered on a Thursday in the SAME WEEK. First - I was very pleased with how fast it was delivered. Second - it was very easy to assemble by myself. Third - it sucked up ALL of the dog hair in our house from our two 80 pound dogs that shed all over our house. Fourth - it was very easy to push around and seemed light weight at times. Much lighter than my older Bissell. I am very happy with this purchase and how powerful it is.

Customer Review: Very pleased with purchase and initial performance of vacuum.
Summary: 5 Stars

We just purchased this as a replacement for another vacuum that needed replacement. I'm glad that we did, having used the old vacuum just a couple of days ago this one picked up an amazing amount of finer dirt particles than the older one ever did and additional dog hair that the old one didn't.

Keep in mind this review is based on an initial impression and not long term usage. I'm very happy with it but it will remain to be seen how it holds up over time.

Pros:
1. Easy assembly, 3 Phillip head screws and a couple of snap in parts.
2. Longer handle. If you're a taller person or don't like having to be bent over while vacuuming you'll like this one, it's the tallest one I've seen. It's roughly 4" taller than our previous vacuum.
3. Only two filters. There's one washable filter below the collection canister and one replaceable HEPA filter. Our older one has too many filters and cost a fortune to replace.
4. Decently weighted vacuum - it's not light and feels decently built.
5. 'Clean filter indicator'. Simple indicator that's green when air is flowing at a correct volume through the system and red/black when there's a blockage or the filter(s) need cleaning/replaced. No more guessing as to whether it's actually operating at full strength or not anymore.
6. Transparent tubes. If there's a blockage you'll be able to see where it's at, you won't have to tear the whole thing apart to find it to clear it.
7. Fairly quiet. I have to admit that it's probably the quietest vacuum I've used - it's not whisper quiet but it didn't have our dog running for cover like other vacuums have.

Cons:
1. There's a flip down bar on the nose that's for pet hair, it makes the nose thicker when it's in the up position. With it up I can't go under the kitchen cabinets like I could with other vacuums, and with it down I can't get in as close because it extends the nose. It looks like it may be able to be easily removed if you don't like/use it by removing two Philip head screws which I may do.
2. The 'curved wand' that you attach to the end of the hose and have to put through a loop on the back to connect it to the tube for the beater bar. I'm sure the extra length will be handy when using the wand attachments but it's just plain awkward trying to re-connect it on the back of the vacuum because of the loop you have to put it through and the curve of the tube/vacuum itself.
3. Although simple to assemble the instructions aren't very clear. If you're used to assembling things without reading directions you'll figure it out without any problems but if you rely on clear instructions for help you may be scratching you're head a couple of times.

Customer Review: Waste of Money
Summary: 1 Stars

I have a German Shepherd and two toddlers, and they make the typical messes dogs and toddlers make- dog food and cereal crumbs, and hair, hair everywhere. My house is all tile floor and carpet. I might not be so mad at my Bissel if I hadn't paid way more for it than it is listed here for.
My old vacuum (Eureka) crapped out on me, so after lots of comparing I settled on this Pet Hair Eraser Bissel, and was TOTALLY disappointed. The vacuum didn't create enough suction- straight out of the box- to work the little attachments, and with just one big dog you seriously have to clean out all the filters every 10 minnutes. After a month an a half of this Pain in the A** process, the beater bar does nothing but spit stuff back out, and the hose has hardly any suction. I've taken the POS apart atleast 3 times trying to figure out what the problem is, cleaned all the pieces thuroughly and put it back together, but it hasn't made a difference. So I'm out several hundred dollars and get a headache whenever I look at the thing. Don't waste your money unless you are childless, have all carpet flooring, and no more than one small pet.

Customer Review: too much junk in the trunk
Summary: 3 Stars

My vacuum shot craps so it was time, i read alott of reviews on it and pretty much everyone liked it. I think its ok , it is heavy, has a lott of hose, tools all stuck on the arm of the vacuum. It sucks up hair great the hair eraser, its just something to get you to buy it, it doesn't work that great i keep it up up most of the time. The way the hose connects to the vacuum its always in your way. The way the tools hook on the front was not thought out well enough ,probably what i need to say is it works ok ,picks up hair and dirt but the design is pretty lame way to much junk on it for me

Customer Review: Would not recomend
Summary: 2 Stars

Carpet hight adjustment does not work right out of the box. Power cord exits to low so you always have to reach way down to get it. Power switch in on the mid level front of the machine and not on the handle. Hose is such that you have to always reverse the couplings in order to use it easily. As usual with many brands it comes as a pile of parts. It does have good suction but, that is about all. A total waste of $150 and going back to a Hoover again.
