Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Bissell 76T8 Versus Bare-Floor Vacuum Cleaner with Brushless V-Shape TechnologyCustomer Review: Broke in less than 1 year/ bad for edges Summary: 2 StarsI purchased this vacuum in February of 2009, and today I am looking for a replacement because it broke. While this vacuum does well for corners on my tile floor, it is horrible for the edges. I have more stuff collecting there and I need to use the manual hose to get rid of it. The suction is just in the middle or apex of the V and the V design prevents it from hugging the edges. If you use the vacuum to "kick" out the dirt, then the center suction can easily pick it up, but is all that wrist flicking worth it? Edges are more plentiful than corners in my home, so this is a problem. As I was adjusting the V shape to pick up something, it broke just above the V shape broom. I don't even want to submit a warranty claim and will gladly purchase something else. It's hard to believe that CR rated this as the best stick vacuum.
Customer Review: Bissell 76T8 cleaner clumsy to use Summary: 3 StarsThe suction is excellent. The v-shape design is awkward and makes it clumsy to use. I wish they would come out with an alternate brush consumers could order. Am I the only one with a problem here? Also, the brushes collect dust rather than propel it toward the center which vacuums dirt and brushes have to be cleaned after every use.
Customer Review: Piece of crap. Summary: 1 StarsThis thing is unstable, hard to use, useless for corners, and the hose is ridiculously short. It's a cheap plastic toy, not serious work tool.
Customer Review: I love this vacuum! Summary: 5 StarsI am really picky about vacuum cleaners and haven't purchased a new vacuum in about 2 years, which is really unusual for me. I really haven't seen anything worth buying. I have mostly hardwood floors with a few area rugs and most vacuums are horrible on hardwood. You have to go over something about a million times and it usually just blows the dirt around and you have to eventually bring out the hose to get it all. Also, because I have 2 dogs and 2 parakeets, hair is a real problem. All the vacuums always get tons of hair stuck on the wheels and I have to literally play tug of war to get it out or resort to scissors and the dust cups are so dirty with the dust practically falling on the vacuum the minute you remove the cup.
I read the great review about not have wheels in front to catch the hair and I was sold. They finally figured out a perfect design to eliminate the hair problem. The wheels are behind the sweeper and the hair is sucked up before reaching the back. The v shape is so clever and really works well at getting corners and edges and around table and chair legs. It's plenty powerful too, 12 amps and not as noisy as the Dirt Devil that I had before. I don't find it clumsy or hard to handle. All you have to do to bring it out of it's upright mode is put one foot on the top of the sweeper part and pull down on the handle. What's the big deal? The dirt cup comes out of the vacuum amazingly clean. I just empty the cup and the interior doesn't drop dust and dirt when I remove it.
UPDATE: I recommended this vac to my friend who also has mostly hardwood floors and she absolutely loves it. She told me we have to tell all of our friends about it. Her only complaint was the cord length. That's easily remedied with any extension cord.
I'm planning on buying this vacuum as a present for each of my family. If you have hardwood floors, you've got to have this. Could have a longer cord, but I was so pleased with it, I really didn't mind unplugging it. I plan to get a good extension cord. I only need about 10 feet more to be perfect.
Customer Review: Just what we needed. Summary: 5 StarsWe just recieved our new Bissel Versa Bare Floor Vacuum and it is great. Ours works like the one in the commercial. Once you get the hang of twisting your wrist to make it much more mobile and accurate it cleans even fine dust along the wood trim on the floors. It has plenty of power but doesn't try to eat its cord, coins or nearby papers. It can pick up dried black beans and stuff like that no problem. Easy to assemble, easy to empty. Excellent value for the money!
